Panthers running back Cameron Artis-Payne has re-signed with the team on a one-year deal, per the team website.
Artis-Payne was a fifth-round pick by Carolina in the 2015 NFL draft. He has not seen a ton of playing time except in preseason. So far, he’s played in 32 regular season games, tallying 491 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 118 attempts.
Christian McCaffrey is locked in as the Panthers’ No. 1 running back and will rarely come off the field in 2019. Artis-Payne is projected to be his primary backup, unless the team picks up another back in the draft at the end of the month.
