Panthers re-sign local running back Elijah Hood on 1-year deal

Expect a lot of changes for the Carolina Panthers backfield this offseason. We already know that Christian McCaffrey is locked in as the long-time starter at the position, but every other spot on the depth chart should be up for grabs. One guy who will be in the mix is Elijah Hood. The team just announced that Hood has re-signed on a one-year deal.

Here’s what Hood had to say about his new contract, per the official team website.

“Obviously it’s a blessing. I’m excited. I thank God that I’ll get the opportunity to keep playing here.”

Hood played his college football at North Carolina, where he racked up 2,580 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in three years. He was a seventh-round pick by the Raiders in 2017 but he only played in one game and then was released. Carolina picked Hood up off waivers in May last year. He suffered an injury in the preseason and did not play in 2018.

At 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, Hood has the build to fill the power back role for the Panthers.
