Panthers put Graham Gano on IR, giving kicker job to Joey Slye

The Panthers have placed kicker Graham Gano on injured reserve, ending his season. This means it’s Joey Slye’s turn to be the team’s kicker.

Slye is a rookie who played his college football at Virginia Tech. During his time there, he made 78 of 108 field goal attempts and 169 of 172 extra points. His performance this preseason, combined with Gano’s injury, made him an easy choice.

Last night, Slye hit a field goal from 59 yards out. It would have been good from much farther, too. Slye has also connected on kicks from 54 and 55 yards this month. His only miss was blocked.
