Panthers pull Cam Newton from preseason game vs. Patriots after foot injury

Preseason football is terrible and it must be stopped. The Panthers have pulled starting quarterback Cam Newton from tonight’s game against the Patriots after he suffered a foot injury.

Newton has historically done well against New England, but he did not have a fun go of it tonight. He was harassed by pass rushers, and his receivers were unable to get open. Cam exited the game having gone 4 of 6 for 30 yards. He took two sacks for 17 yards lost, including the one that knocked him out of the game.

The Patriots lead 7-0 early in the second quarter. Kyle Allen has come in to replace Newton at quarterback.

Update:

The official word is Cam Newton suffered a mid-foot sprain. The team is optimistic about him playing Week 1.
