Panthers P Joseph Charlton wins NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Panthers punter Joseph Charlton has been named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Washington.

Charlton averaged 47 yards per attempt and pinned the Football Team inside the 20 five times.

Charlton is a rookie who played his college football at South Carolina and was signed as an undrafted free agent after Michael Palardy suffered an ACL tear this offseason. During training camp, Charlton earned some bad headlines for booting a couple kicks over the wall. However, once the games began he proved to have what it takes at this level.

For the season, Charlton has punted 42 times, totaling 1,943 yards – a respectable average of 46.3 yards per attempt. He’s also completed one 28-yard per pass on a fake punt, giving him a 118.7 passer rating on the year.
