Panthers injury updates: Photo shows Cam Newton still in a walking boot

Cam Newton needs to get back to 100%, no matter how long that takes. This photo from Twitter shows Newton’s still in a walking boot while he made a stop to buy donuts this morning.

To recap, Newton’s injury first happened in the preseason. In the Week 3 matchup with the Patriots, the Panthers had no plan to deal with a pass rush that’s currently tied with Carolina for the most sacks (18) in the league. Newton played 11 meaningless snaps and then got hurt on a tackle.

Cam left Gillette Stadium in a walking boot and it was reported he’d miss about two weeks but would be ready for Week 1 against the Rams. Newton didn’t look like himself against LA, which was a major factor in a frustrating and winnable home loss. The Panthers started Cam again four days later against the Buccaneers and he aggravated the injury.

Newton has since admitted that he didn’t feel right in warmups Week 1 and hid his pain from the team until after that Thursday night loss. The injury is now reported to be a Lisfranc, which can take up to eight weeks to heal – at least according to Doctor Google.

For now, the Panthers will continue to roll with Kyle Allen. Despite some fumbling issues, he’s now 3-0 as a starter and tomorrow will be his first home game.
