The Panthers on Wednesday began taking league-mandated precautionary measures after being exposed to a player Sunday who’s since tested positive for the coronavirus.
That’s notable for the Bears, who are scheduled to fly to Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday to face the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
Falcons defensive tackle Marlon Davidson, who played 12 defensive snaps against the Panthers on Sunday, was placed on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. The Panthers do not have anyone on their roster who has tested positive for the coronavirus, but are entering the NFL’s intensive protocol because of their contact with Davidson.
All players must pass a point-of-care test to enter the Panthers’ practice facility. The Panthers can practice, but players must wear gloves and masks over their faces. Meetings must be conducted virtually; when possible, gatherings should be outdoors or in open places. The facility must be deep-cleaned every day until the team is given the all-clear by the NFL.
The Bears had a more substantial coronavirus scare this weekend, when they placed practice squad offensive lineman Badara Traore on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday after he tested positive. Bears coach Matt Nagy adjusted his own schedule, changing Monday’s practice to a walk-through so he could keep his practice squad players at home.
