Panthers Highlights: Will Grier finds Curtis Samuel for a long touchdown

Will Grier was the first quarterback the Panthers selected in the NFL draft since taking Cam Newton No. 1 overall back in 2011. Grier’s game is definitely still a work in progress at this point, but if nothing else his college tape shows he can put some real touch on deep passes. With Newton getting a day off to rest his throwing shoulder, Grier got first-team reps at today’s practice.

Grier’s throws were a mixed bag, but we finally have our first highlight-reel worthy play for the rookie QB. Here Grier hits wide receiver Curtis Samuel for a touchdown despite tight coverage from cornerback Donte Jackson in one-on-one drills.

Watch the placement of Grier’s pass.

Grier and Samuel hooked up for another score in team drills.

As for Samuel, he did most of his damage from the outside last season, so hopefully we will get to see more of this when the games begin. Samuel also scored on a deep ball from Cam Newton in team drills Thursday evening.
