Panthers great Thomas Davis discusses post-football career plans

Luke Kuechly left his pro scout position with the Carolina Panthers to pursue other passions: namely hunting and fishing in the fall months.

Another Carolina legend also recently walked away from the game and has to figure out what to do with all his newfound free time. Former Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis retired a couple months ago. Yesterday, Davis told reporters that he doesn’t see coaching or scouting in his future. However, he does have an audition lined up with SEC Network.

Davis played his college ball at Georgia before the Panthers picked him in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft.

If Davis is looking for any pointers, he might seek out his old teammate, tight end Greg Olsen – now a TV analyst for Fox Sports. Davis also took the time to mention Olsen’s son TJ, who’s in his prayers, per the team website.

“I’ve sent Greg a few text messages to let him know we’re praying for TJ and the entire family. You know how resilient TJ is and how hard he’s fought his entire life. You know that he’s a fighter, and he’s a kid that’s going to pull through this. With a ton of prayer and with the good doctors they have at the Levine Children’s Hospital, we know they’re going to take good care of him. We’re just going to continue to pray for Greg and the family.”
