Panthers DT Kawann Short named a team captain for first time

The Carolina Panthers have named their captains for the 2019 season, which begins on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Here is a review of this year’s regular season captains, per the team website.

QB Cam Newton
LB Luke Kuechly
TE Greg Olsen
DT Kawann Short
S Colin Jones

This is the first time that Short has been named a team captain. A second-round pick for the Panthers in 2013, Short has played in 94 games for Carolina. He’s posted 32.5 sacks, 84 quarterback hits and 58 tackles for a loss and made two Pro Bowl teams.

Thanks to the addition of former Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, Short could be in for his best year yet. The attention McCoy commands should open up more opportunities for Short to make stops.
