Panthers defense among NFL’s best in these 2 stats

The Panthers go into their bye week with an improbable 4-2 record after starting out the year with two home losses. A lot goes into winning or losing any football game, but the big reason why Carolina’s rebounded so well is its defense. Here’s two more stats that show the Panthers have one of the league’s best this season.

Giving up a lot of yards after the catch is a back-breaker for any NFL defense. They’ve done a good job of avoiding that so far. Carolina has allowed just 2.7 yards after catch per pass on average. That’s tied with the Broncos for the fourth-lowest in the league.

This is another credit to Perry Fewell’s work with the secondary. Their coverage and tackling have both improved dramatically this year compared to last.

Another thing this 2019 Panthers defense is doing a good job of is getting off the field. According to NFL Matchup on ESPN, they’re tied with the Browns for the sixth-highest three and out % this year. Their next opponents, the 49ers are first.
