Kyle Allen will start at quarterback for the Panthers again this week, according to coach Ron Rivera. Cam Newton will continue rehabbing from his foot injury.
While the team is 5-0 with Allen as a starter, he has yet to face an elite defense like that of the 49ers. San Francisco has allowed the fewest passing yards and the second-fewest points per game in the NFL this season. They just shut out Washington, bringing their record to 6-0. They’re the last undefeated team left in the NFC.
Allen has had his moments, but Carolina is considered a 5.5-point underdog for the matchup.
