Panthers claim linebacker off waivers from the Patriots

The Carolina Panthers have added a couple of linebackers to shore up their depth at that position plus special teams today. Earlier, the team released undrafted defensive tackle Austrian Robinson and re-signed former Panthers linebacker Adarius Taylor.

Now, they’ve added another linebacker off waivers from the New England Patriots. It’s Kyahva Tezino, according to the team website.

Tezino (six-foot, 235 pounds) was also undrafted, playing 48 games at San Diego State. During his time there, he recorded 148 solo tackles, 14.5 sacks and two interceptions. He saw no action in New England during the 2019 season as a rookie.

Together, the two moves put pressure on the five undrafted linebackers that the team signed several months ago. Missing out on a rookie camp puts Jordan Mack, Chris Orr, David Reese, Sam Franklin and Jason Ferris all at more risk of being cut. Players with real NFL experience – no matter how limited – will be at an advantage in the coming weeks.
