The Panthers have claimed three players off waivers following yesterday’s roster cutdowns to 53 men for the regular season.
According to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, that includes former Eagles cornerback Rasul Douglas, his Philadelphia teammate defensive end Shareef Miller and former Chargers offensive tackle Trenton Scott.

Douglas (6-foot-2, 209 pounds) is the biggest name of the group. He was picked in the third round of the 2017 draft by the Eagles. Douglas played 46 games, totaling five interceptions, 25 pass breakups and nine tackles for a loss. He will likely compete for the opportunity to start outside opposite Donte Jackson.
Miller (6-foot-4, 254 pounds) was a fourth-round pick by Philly last year. He was essentially red-shirted his rookie season.
Scott (6-foot-5, 320 pounds) brings familiarty with former Chargers offensive line coach Pat Meyer, who is now filling that role in Carolina. To keep his spot Scott will need to work on reducing his penalties. Last season, he committed eight, including four false starts.
At least in theory, Douglas helps fill the team’s glaring hole at cornerback. They still need another tight end, so expect more moves to come.

The Panthers have released offensive tackle Matt Kaskey, which opens up a spot for Scott.

If they plan to cut players from the same positions to make room for the others, then the two most likely candidates are rookie cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver and defensive end Marquis Haynes.
