Panthers are excited for new chapter with QB Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater is finally getting an opportunity after a gruesome knee injury with the Vikings in 2016.

Since, Bridgewater signed with the Jets and later was traded to the Saints. In 2019, he started five games when Drew Brees was out with a thumb injury and the Saints went 5-0.

This offseason, he signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Panthers to be their starting quarterback.

“I think everybody you talk to, they talked about his leadership skills, and he’s got familiarity with (offensive coordinator) Joe Brady’s system since Joe was down there in New Orleans with him,” Panthers GM Marty Hurney said via Panthers.com. “He’s certainly a guy who’s overcome adversity and has, really if you look at it, he’s won everywhere he’s been, so we thought he’d be a good fit for us.”

Bridgewater has never put up crazy numbers, but he has a record of 22-12 as a starter. Carolina cut ties with Cam Newton (who is still a free agent) to bring Bridgewater in. It’s certainly a risk for a team in transition, but Bridgewater is still only 27 years old and if he reaches the potential he was on track for with the Vikings, it’s a risk certainly worth taking.
