Panthers announce they have tendered defensive end Bryan Cox Jr.

The Panthers have officially signed all their exclusive rights free agents for the 2019 season. According to a news release on the official team website, they have tendered defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. Safety Damian Parms, running back Elijah Hood and defensive end Efe Obada had all previously signed.

The son of the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker by the same name, Cox hasn’t quite risen to the same level of stardom yet. He went undrafted out of Florida, first signing with Carolina in May of 2017. So far, Cox has played in 18 games, posting 16 combined tackles and four quarterback hits.

Last season, Cox played 200 defensive snaps and 91 more on special teams.

Cox is a backup edge only, but he has shown flashes of promise from time to time, usually in preseason. He, Obada and Marquis Haynes will likely round out the bottom of the team’s defensive end rotation behind Mario Addison and whoever replaces Julius Peppers.
