India's SCG Test has gone from bad to worse with Ravindra Jadeja suffering a dislocated thumb and Rishabh Pant's arm heavily strapped.
Neither Jadeja or Pant were able to take to the field on day four of the third Test, with Wriddhiman Saha again taking the gloves and Mayank Agarwal fielding.
The injury would likely mean Jadeja's series is almost certainly over.
The spinning allrounder was struck on the thumb by a Mitchell Starc thunderbolt on Saturday, and while he managed to bat on he was in clear pain.
Jadeja's absence will come as a serious blow to India, given he took four wickets in the first innings at the SCG and scored 28 not out.
He is also crucial to the balance of India's XI, given the call to bat him at No.7 has allowed India to play five bowlers.
That issue would be further compounded if Pant cannot play at the Gabba in the fourth Test, starting on Friday.
He was hit on the elbow by Pat Cummins and while he is not keeping, may be able to bat in the second innings if required.
He is a preferred keeping option to Saha given his prowess with the bat, and has been used at No.6 in Melbourne and Sydney.
Without both Pant and Jadeja, India would likely need to bring in an extra specialist batsman and play only four bowlers in Brisbane.
The tourists are already without quicks Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma.
