Panicked dad asks if they need to take passports to birth to prove they're the parents

Becoming a parent for the first time is a unique and overwhelming experience - but first-time parents will often acknowledge they're not sure what to expect.

Suddenly thrust into a world of nappy changes, night feeds and disrupted sleep patterns, it's an enormous lifestyle change.

And when a woman goes into labour, her partner can't be blamed for panicking a little bit. The pair are about to become parents for the first time, and there's an incredibly difficult few hours ahead before the baby is born.

So perhaps we can't give a confused TikTok dad too much flak for asking what he believed to be a legitimate question when he and his wife were on their way to the hospital at 2.45am as she went into labour.

The confused dad-to-be seemed out of sorts when he asked what he thought was an important question (madisonmarschall/TikTok)

TikToker @madisonmarschall posted a hilarious video reminiscing on the time she left home to get to the hospital after her waters broke - and her husband asked if they needed their passports.

Madison's video, recorded from doorbell footage, shows her tired and confused husband walking back towards the front door as she gets in the car.

Turning back to his wife, he says: "Do we need - uh - do we need our passports or anything?"

Madison, clearly confused but remaining calm, sarcastically replies: "Yeah, we're going to Paris."

Defiant as he approaches the door, her husband says: "Well I don't know, s**t, have we gotta prove we're the baby's parents?"

Madison uploaded the video with the caption: 'First time dad probs, I love him' - and it's racked up 1.2 million likes, making people laugh all around the world.

The mum added in a comment: "In his defence he just took melatonin an hour before my water broke. Yes, you bring ID! I told him to bring his driver's license and then he said this."

Most commenters saw the funny side, with one person saying: "Poor guy is still half asleep."

Another said: "You can hear him questioning himself halfway through his sentence."
