Panic merchant Celtic fans need to get a grip over Eddie Howe before the laughing really starts - Hotline

Transfer silly season is almost upon us and talk down south that Oli McBurnie was on Rangers’ radar had Gers fans going off their dish.

The Scotland striker is set to leave Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premier League.

But with one goal to his name last season the frontman with the broken metatarsal is NOT what Light Blues fans are hoping for in the summer window.

Derek Ferguson emailed: “I hope it is just paper talk that Rangers are interested in Oli McBurnie. One goal in 27 games is a record that would deter any club who are striving to improve. Add to the fact he is currently injured surely rings an alarm bell given Rangers history of signing injury prone players.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “As a Rangers fan I hope the news that Rangers are interested in Oli McBurnie is false. He’s wouldn’t be a patch on Morelos and if he’s his replacement then it’s a wrong decision in my view.”

Sticking with speculation for a minute and Jack Wilshere was loosely linked with Celtic earlier in the week.

But Kevin Kean, Inchinnan , said: “I cringed when I saw rumours emerging about Wilshere coming to Celtic. No, no, no! The boy is made of Marzipan. I was hoping Steven Gerrard would follow up his interest in him last season. He is done.”

Celtic need a new manager before new players start to arrive and on that front David Bryce, Troon, said: “It’s time for Celtic to move onto their next managerial target. It’s obvious that Eddie Howe has reservations about taking the job. The amount of time it has now taken is scandalous. The club is in turmoil and we have no leadership. Mr Desmond must grab the bull by it’s horns and say enough is enough and move on.”

But John Kerr emailed: “Some Celtic supporters really need to get a grip. The definition of gardening leave is a notice period where employees are restricted from working but they still get a normal rate of pay. They can't work elsewhere during this period. Would any of you seriously give up the megabucks Howe is on at Bournemouth? I don't think so.”

Alfie Mullin, London, said: “I think Hotline regular Steve McSherry has been quaffing too much of his namesake. How can he expect Celtic to undergo the biggest rebuild that Scottish football has ever seen? I mean, this is a club whose board are run by Ebenezer Scrooge and C Montgomery Burns. It's nice to see that delusions are alive and well among the Celtic support.”

Elsewhere and Kilmarnock and Hamilton are facing up to life in the second tier after relegation - but there was little sympathy from Alan Grier who emailed: “No harm to Kilmarnock and Hamilton but I’m pleased that’s two dreadful playing surfaces the other teams don’t need to suffer. I’ve hardly ever seen a good game on them.”

Finally onto Tayside and Dundee United fan Ronnie Swan, Lochee, is concerned about the potential appointment of academy head Tam Courts as the new manager at Tannadice.

He said: “Its only a thought but could Tony Asghar be an undercover agent sent in by Rangers to bring down Dundee United? If so, so far so good. If they get this wrong I genuinely believe Dundee United could disappear forever. The current Dundee team will walk all over United next season.”

If you thought that was controversial then Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, suggested: “The best way forward for both Dundee teams is to join forces and challenge the big guns. Put all resources into one team and call them Dundee city.”

Good luck with that Stephen.
