Panic buyers hit the shops to stock up as second national lockdown looms

Dozens of shoppers have been spotted queuing outside supermarkets across the UK as fears that panic buying may have already begun ahead of a possible second lockdown.

Shoppers at Costco in Manchester were seen with trolleys full of milk and toilet roll in scenes similar to a few months ago where supermarket shelves were left empty.

It emerged yesterday that is it feared the country will enter a second lockdown later this week that could last for up to a month.

Pubs, bars and restaurants could all close if the government decides to bring in further restrictions in a bid to stop the virus spreading.

Only essential shops would remain open if the government decides to clampdown further, and in places that are already in tier-three shoppers have been seen with trolleys full of essential items.

In March supermarket shelves were left bare as the public panic bought cupboard essentials including pasta, rice, and flour.

The threat of a shutdown prompted long queues outside Costco stores in Manchester and Southampton today amid fears panic-buying has already begun.

Parents are also being warned to slow down their spending amid fears of a toy shortage this Christmas.

Research shows that festive disappointment could hit families across the UK as panic-buying mania spreads to the toy department amid fears of an early surge in demand for Xmas presents.

With the Christmas season fast approaching, and an anticipated rise in online shopping, retailers have previously warned that popular in-demand toys will sell out long before December leaving parents frustrated and children disappointed.
