'Panic button pressed' - Notts County fans fume as National League cancel season

Notts County fans are fuming after the National League's decision to declare the 2019-20 season over.

Neal Ardley's side have seen their promotion push cancelled with Notts in third place and gunning for a play-off spot.

Promotion through the top spot was still within their reach, too, with only seven points separating them from Barrow in first.

The Magpies were eyeing an immediate return to the English Football League (EFL) having been relegated from League Two last season.

Notts fans are annoyed that the season has been cancelled not only because it puts the breaks on their promotion push but, because like most of us, they are missing the football as much as the rest of us.

The season had originally been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

One fans said: "How have teams voted to cancel the season when they haven’t been told what the outcome would be if it became void?"

Another added: "Sounds like the door could still be open for the playoffs though as surely they are not 'normal season matches'."

A third said: "Still copping out of the big decisions then......."

Another said: "We have no idea if next season will start. Panic button pressed. Can’t see any football till we have a vaccine and past the most of winter. Should just miss 12 months and resume next March."

And a fifth added: "Ridiculous decision given it’s only April!"

Another said: "What about the fans hey who have paid money for season tickets."
