Mazda has confirmed that over 10,000 cars are being recalled on the Irish market over safety concerns.
Three specific models are affected with the company saying that the cars may stall due to soot build up.
The vehicles involved were made between 2012 and 2018 and exactly 10,470 are part of the recall campaign.
A statement said: "Mazda Motor Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall on certain CX-5 (KE/KF), Mazda 3 (BM/BN), and Mazda 6 (GJ/GL) passenger vehicles.
"A safety issue has been identified, whereby, it is possible that an accumulation of soot may cause the intake shutter valve to stick in the closed position.
"Under certain conditions and in the worst-case scenario, this could result in the engine stalling."
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: "Affected vehicles were produced within the following manufacturing timelines:
- Mazda CX-5 (January 2012 – May 2018)
- Mazda 3 (July 2013 – June 2018)
- Mazda 6 (October 2012 – March 2018)
"Approximately 10,470 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland are affected by this recall campaign."
The manufacturer has begun to contact the affected owners, who should expected to received a letter instructing them to contact a local dealer where necessary repairs will be carried out.
