Panic among Disneyland Paris tourists after theme park evacuated in false alarm

Tourists at Disneyland Paris were told to stay indoors and the theme park was evacuated, it has been reported.

Video footage taken shortly before 9pm local time shows tourists running and screaming in the dark. However, it turned out to be a false alarm.

According to The Mirror, visitors were asked to stay in their hotels and not to attempt to go to the village.

The news spread panic on social media, but other visitors reported they were "totally fine".

Later reports suggested the panic was possibly triggered by an electrical fault on an escalator, which made a loud noise.

Disneyland Paris has confirmed it was a false alarm.

Reports include people in a Starbucks cafe being asked to exit through a different route, and other shoppers being led through similar doors.

There are police officers and army on the scene, it was reported.

A witness told news outlet Sud Info: "The security guards locked the doors and we were evacuated by the back shop.

"It was really panic. Many people were crying. We really wondered what was going on. I was with my son."

A spokesman for Disneyland Paris said: "There has been no explosions, no shootings, no injuries. It (was) a false alarm.

"Please don’t read any rumours or stories that over exaggerate – the lockdown and police attendance were standard procedure following any sort of incident."

The Interior Ministry tweeted : "Mass stampede tonight at Disneyland Paris. False alarm, security forces confirm there is no threat."

Before the reason for the loud noise was discovered, tourists described a "frightening atmosphere".
