There was panic at a teenage disco in Fermoy at the weekend after a smoke bomb went off inside.
Teenagers as young as 13 were enjoying themselves at the disco in Fermoy Rowing Club on Friday night.
The Xperia Summer Party had drawn a big crowd with tickets in costing €10 per person.
Cork Beo reports that organisers had to shut down the event early at 10:30pm after the canister was discharged and smoke started to fill the room.
Panicked teenagers were escorted out of the venue and luckily nobody suffered any type of injuries during the incident.
The organisers of the event apologised for the early closure and are working with gardai to find the culprit.
Fermoy Rowing Club said in a statement: "Fermoy Rowing Club wishes to apologise to loyal patrons for the early closure of the disco at 10.40pm on Friday 31st May.
"This was necessary to ensure the safety and enjoyment of those in attendance following the deliberate discharge of a smoke canister within the hall, similar to what you see discharged at sportingevents.
"Luckily, no one was hurt. Fermoy Rowing Club takes such incidences very seriously and are liaising with the Gardai to ensure that the perpetrators are held to account.
"The incident was recorded on CCTV and the tapes will be handed to Gardai to investigate.
"The club would like to thank all those who attended for the orderly and well behaved way in which they vacated the premises at what had been a very enjoyable evening up to that incident."
A garda spokesperson told Cork Beo: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage that occurred on the 31st May 2019 at approximately 22.15pm. The incident involving fireworks occurred at a premises in Barnane, Fermoy Co Cork. The premises was evacuated and no
injuries were reported."
