Pandemic experts ask a group of staff and pupils at a Renfrewshire high school to self isolate along with everyone in their household

Pandemic trace and protect experts say they have identified a small group of staff and pupils that have been asked to self isolate at Johnstone High School.

Renfrewshire Council provided the update last night after a Covid-19 positive case was first identified at the school on Sunday.

All parents and carers with a child at the school were also informed of the Covid-19 positive test via text message, with a letter also issued by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The virus has to date been detected in nine Renfrewshire schools.

A spokeswoman for Renfrewshire Council said: “We have worked closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and school staff to identify any close contacts of those who have tested positive for Covid-19, and parents and carers of any pupil identified have already been contacted.

“The household members of any contacts that have been identified since Monday, September 7 have also been asked to self-isolate due to new local restrictions announced by Scottish Government and are being given appropriate support and advice.”

She added: “Working closely with the NHS, we will continue to monitor the situation and take any further action as required.

“NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are the lead agency and advise that robust control measures are in place and the school remains safe to remain open as normal.”

Education chiefs are continuing to remind parents not to send their children to school if they - or anyone in their household - is showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

These include a new and persistent cough, high temperature or fever and loss of taste and smell.

The person showing symptoms should self-isolate and be tested as soon as possible.
