The pandemic has cost South Ayrshire Council nearly £6.5 million so far.
Council bosses are considering drafting up an emergency budget to deal with the financial hit of Covid-19.
The £6.5 million amount is only the sum up until the end of June - with more costs expected in the months ahead.
The figure includes a “drastic” £3.5 million loss of income as well as spend of £2.9 million to respond to the virus.
A council report said: “Covid-19 continues to present financial challenges for local government that are changing and emerging every day. As well as directly dealing with the impact of the virus and protecting communities, councils must continue to deliver a wide range of services which are all being impacted by the current situation.”
The Scottish Government is handing the council £4.9 million to cope with the emergency.
But that still leaves a shortfall of £1.6 million.
The council has estimated usable reserves of £7.4 million.
Bosses predict the return of school is likely to place significant financial pressures on council because of social distancing, staffing and transport issues.
Emergency childcare is to be provided for key workers over the summer.
The council report said: “The council also needs to prepare for restoring services that are currently suspended, and it is clear that social distancing arrangements will require to be maintained for some time. This will come at an additional cost, especially in relation to schools.”
Teams has been delivering food to families whose children are entitled to free school meals, paying out for PPE and contacting people who are shielding.
