Panchkula mayor’s pet project runs into manpower problems

PANCHKULA: The poor staff strength of the MC horticulture wing became a problem when the mayor’s favourite project of making the city green by growing grass on all city footpaths was halted. The mayor sought details of the staff, equipment as well as required land and requested the joint commissioner to fill the vacant posts immediately.

When the mayor asked for the status report of the Green Panchkula Project (under which grass was to be grown across the city), during the revenue and realisation committee meeting, horticulture department officials said that staff shortage had delayed the work.

When asked about the requirement, horticulture wing officials presented a report, informing that eight gardeners and two supervisors were required to complete the project on time. The list of equipment required included a tractor, two trollies, a water tanker and a Shaktiman machine worth Rs 60 lakh.

The mayor asked joint MC commissioner Sanyam Garg to provide staff and equipment demanded by the horticulture wing for completion of necessary beautification works in the city.

A discussion on stray dog rehabilitation and work on a hospital was also conducted during the meeting on Thursday. The mayor was informed that boundary wall had been constructed on two sides of the rehabilitation compound and the other two sides were yet to walled in. Officials also said that the dog hospital at Sukhdarshanpur would be fully completed by the end of September. Officials informed the mayor that fencing of the dumping ground in Jhuriwala would be done on a budget of Rs 42 lakh
