Panchayat polls: Special drive by Jharkhand police to check criminal activities

RANCHI: In view of the upcoming panchayat polls, the state police has initiated special drives for ensuring peace during the election, which include seizure of illegal arms and ammunition, verification of licensed arms, execution of pending warrants and taking preventive action against troublemakers. The election will be held in four phases from May 14 and the counting of votes will take place on May 17, 22 and 31.

On Thursday, additional director general of police Sanjay Lathkar conducted a meeting with his field officers via video-conferencing and discussed several issues, including pending non-bailable warrants and raids on the illegal production, sale and inter-state movement of liquor and other intoxicants.

The deputy IGs have been instructed to hold inter-state and intra-state meetings for exchanging lists of wanted criminals, smugglers and suppliers of illegal arms so that action could be taken against them.
