Panchaganga river below warning mark, Kolhapur getting more rain

KOLHAPUR: On Saturday, the Panchaganga river level receded to 35 feet — below the warning mark of 39 feet and danger level of 43 feet. The district has been receiving good rainfall since Friday night and the Radhanagari dam continued to discharge water at 2820 cusec from one gate.

As per the district disaster management officials, Kolhapur received 9.9mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 6 pm on Saturday. The Chandgad region received the highest rainfall (27.5mm) followed by Shahuwadi (19.3mm). Shirol, meanwhile, received the least rainfall (2.2mm). At 8 pm on Saturday, the Panchaganga river level was recorded at 35 feet at the Rajaram barrage in Kasba Bawda in Kolhapur. Currently, 34 barrages in the district are submerged.

Water supply situation to be normalised by Monday

With the floodwaters receding, the drinking water supply in Kolhapur is set to normalise by Monday.

Ajay Salokhe, the chief hydraulic engineer of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC), said, “On Friday night, the Nagdevwadi water pumping station was made operational. At present, with both Balinga and Nagdevwadi water pumping stations being operational, nearly 50% of the city has started receiving tapped water. The Shingnapur water pumping station is also set to get operational by Monday. The water supply situation in the city would return to normal after that.”
