Panathinaikos set to make loan move for Newcastle United winger

Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons is a loan target for Greek side Panathinaikos.

Despite the fact that the Magpies still don't know who will be manager on July 1, the club are starting to field enquiries for some of their squad players.

And 23-year-old Aarons is wanted as a possible loan option for ex-Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas who is the club's technical director.

As reported by the Chronicle in May, Dabizas travelled to England to look to set up fresh links with the Magpies.

Panathinaikos are currently struggling financially so they can only afford a small portion of Aarons' wage packet.

But a deal could still be considered with former Blackburn Rovers player Giorgos Donis keen to work with the Toon player according to sources in Greece.

Aarons spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and FC Slovan Liberec but neither club struck a permanent transfer.

The winger still has two years left on his current contract.

Panathinaikos are also in talks to sign former attacker Cal Roberts who is available on a free transfer, however, he is also attracting interest from a clutch of League One clubs.
