Panasonic Corp. said Friday it had introduced a system to allow its employees to work at other companies for up to about one year at their request.
The measure is part of the firm's work style reform efforts, with the hope of helping foster employees' motivation and creating new business.
For a major company to introduce this system is said to be a rarity.
Under the system, employees submit their requests on desired industry types or job categories and find companies that would accept them through outside intermediary services. If Panasonic considers it could bring about synergistic effects to the employees' work at the company, the employees will be allowed to work at other companies in the same industry.
Panasonic employees from their fourth year are eligible to participate in the system. They are expected to work at other companies from one month to one year. Salaries will be paid by Panasonic during the period.
According to Panasonic, the screening of applicants has already started, and about five employees in their 20s to 40s will be chosen under the system in its first fiscal year.
A company official in charge said, "We want to aim to increase human resources who experience different types of jobs from their current ones and make an organization that creates diverse ideas." He also said the company will consider expanding the number of employees dispatched under the system.
Panasonic also established a system in which employees of one department can work in a different department within the company at the same time. Under this system, employees can work even in a department that has no relation to their current duties. They will be allowed to work in the other department for about half of each month. About 50 departments have already applied for the system.
