Panam calls out 'appalling' customers who used fire alarm to dodge the bill

City centre restaurant Panam has called out customers for ‘dining and dashing’ after a fire alarm caused them to evacuate last night.

The Albert Dock restaurant has taken to Facebook to appeal to their followers after the incident, imploring customers to pay their bills if they’re ever in a similar situation.

The statement revealed that ‘more than half’ of diners who had finished or were nearing the end of their meal had not returned to pay their bill once it was deemed safe to head back inside.

Panam said: “Last night our restaurant was 80% full and we were in the midst of a busy service. Everything was going great until the fire alarm sounded.

“We quickly established that there was no fire...regardless of the cause we had to evacuate the premises...after 5/10 minutes we were deemed safe to re-enter.

“The chefs were on the ball in getting the replacement food out quickly along with those who were already waiting.

“Unfortunately during the evacuation over half of the guests who had already eater or were nearing the end of their meal never returned to pay the bill.

The post goes on to reveal that there was more than £500 worth of unpaid bills at the end of the night - and that this was the case for several Albert Dock restaurants last night.

Panam said: “We evacuated for everyone’s safety, we understood it was an inconvenience but it was out of our control.

“At the end of the shift there was over £500 worth of unpaid bills which we feel is appalling.

Independent restaurants like ours work hard to pay fair wages, battle increasing food costs and reduce menu prices.

“All we ask, if this happens to you, please return to pay your bill.”
