Fashion designer Pam Hogg has died, her family have announced in a poignant tribute.

In a statement shared on Instagram, her family said they were “deeply saddened” to confirm the death of “our beloved Pamela”, adding that she died surrounded by loved ones after spending her final days at St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.

They wrote: “Pamela’s creative spirit and body of work touched the lives of many people of all ages. Pamela Hogg’s family confirmed the news of her passing in a statement shared on Instagram (PA)

Born in Paisley, near Glasgow, Hogg studied at the Glasgow School of Art before rising to prominence in the 1980s. She launched her first collection in 1981, selling early designs at Hyper Hyper in Kensington Market before opening her own shop in London’s West End. She is understood to have been in her 60s at the time of her death.

Her signature latex, mesh and sharply sculpted silhouettes made her a defining figure of the underground club scene, with collections such as Psychedelic Jungle and Warrior Queen cementing her cult status. Her pieces would later be worn by a new generation of global stars including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue and Shakira.

Hogg also created memorable looks for royalty. Princess Diana wore one of her dresses, while Princess Eugenie chose a custom Hogg hat for Ascot in 2013.

Alongside fashion, Hogg exhibited her art at the Saatchi Gallery, directed music videos and was awarded an honorary doctorate by her former art school. A talented musician, she played in the 1970s band Rubbish, supported The Pogues in their early days, and later joined Britain’s first acid house group The Garden of Eden as well as the band Doll.

Tributes from admirers across fashion, music and television have flooded in. Fearne Cotton wrote: “Pam. Oh Pam. What a joy it was to know you. I’ll miss you Pam.”

Chef Andi Oliver commented on Hogg’s family’s post: “I am so heartbroken to hear about our darling Pam… what a WOMAN!! The one and ONLY!”

While Andi’s presenter daughter Miquita Oliver, added: “Pam. We love you forever and always.”
