A former US attorney has stated that Attorney General Pam Bondi knew that the district judge presented with the request to publicize the secret grand jury transcripts from the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein would have to deny it.
Former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara McQuade took to social media to condemn the Trump administration's "disingenuous" attempt to publicize files relating to the disgraced financier.
"AG Bondi had to know all along that the rules would not permit the court to release the Epstein grand jury materials. This seems like a disingenuous request simply to appease critics and blame the judge for maintaining secrecy," McQuade wrote.

U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenberg dismissed the Justice Department's request to publicize the grand jury transcripts, taking into account well established rules of secrecy pertaining to grand juries. She acknowledged that there are some cases which are fit to be publicized anyway, but that the case presented by the DoJ did no meet the required conditions.
Rosenberg, who was appointed by President Obama, effectively thwarted Bondi and the Trump administration's efforts to publicize the Epstein-related grand jury materials. However, social media users are agreeing with McQuade that Trump administration officials knew the grand jury files could not be made public, and made the request in bad faith to avert criticism from the MAGA base, which has been increasingly turning against President Trump for his handling of the Epstein files.
