Palworld’s popularity already has it expanding into a new game in the next most obvious genre

After conquering PC and console with its 1.0 release, the Palworld IP has its sights set on all sorts of mediums and genres.

The monster-catching survival game evolved a few weeks ago into a trading card game, with packs selling out and cards being sold at high prices already. Now, Palworld is again heading for something new. Can you guess what it is?

That’s right, it’s a mobile MMO, of course! Palworld Online is now in development by Garena, makers of games like Delta Force, Free Fire, Arena of Valor, and Call of Duty Mobile. It’s being made in tandem with Palworld creator Pocketpair.

Palworld is a widely recognized IP, and we see an opportunity to bring the essence of the PC title to mobile in a way that encourages players to connect and venture together,” said Garena president Terry Zhao. “Working closely with Pocketpair, we are focused on preserving the depth, immersion, and freedom that define Palworld, while thoughtfully optimizing the experience for mobile play.”

Garena says that Palworld Online “introduces a new narrative setting with original story elements, while expanding into a MMO ecosystem” that features “a seamless, interconnected open world” where players can “journey alongside mysterious creatures and progress as a team—anytime, anywhere.”

Sounds pretty cool, I guess. Except for the fact that it’s mobile. That has never been my bag, and I know there are plenty of hardcore players who may agree with that sentiment. But the fact is that Garena has a number of smash hit mobile games in Asia, and this game will likely try to find a foothold there before potentially coming to the West.

“Garena has extensive experience in global publishing, localization, and live operations for mobile games,” said Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe. “We are pleased to work with Garena on the licensed development of Palworld Online and look forward to seeing a new Palworld experience brought to players worldwide.”
