'Palworld' has been making headlines ever since its Early Access days, especially with all the controversies it was involved in with "Pokémon."
Now that 'Palworld' has officially released a full version, what do gamers and critics think of it?
'Palworld'
Developed and published by Pocketpair, 'Palworld' was fully released on July 10, 2026. Players act with animal-like creatures known as "Pals," which players can capture and use for combat, base building, or completion of certain tasks.
The game has been compared heavily to "Pokémon" and has been labeled as "Pokémon with guns" as Pals can be given weapons. The similarities have led to a lawsuit being filed against Pocketpair by Nintendo.
It should be made clear, however, that the lawsuit filed by Nitnendo was over patent rights related to in-game monster-catching and summoning mechanics. It is not a copyright infringement case involving creature designs.

What Do the Critics Say?
Much has been said about "Palworld," but now that the game has been officially and fully released, what do critics have to say?
PC Gamer's Andrea Shearon gives the game a score of 80, noting that "There's a push and pull between some of the things that matter most to me in survival crafting games, though I can't deny how good 'Palworld's' creature collecting foundation is."
"I love micromanaging pals at my base, fighting alongside them, and perfecting pedigrees through implants and eggs," Shearon explains. "I'm disappointed by the base building, lackluster open world, and mundane exploration."
Shearon's review adds, "It also lacks personality, unless being bludgeoned to death with a bat labeled "violence' counts as one. We can argue it's parody or satire, sure, but it's not very good at that, either."
Over at Metacritic, the game has a score of 83 based on 12 critic reviews as of press time.
Gamekult gave it a score of 80, saying that "'Palworld' is a wonderful surprise that will delight anyone who loves adventure-survival games where exploration, crafting, and grinding are at the heart of the gameplay."
"The 1.0 release of Palworld presents a very different game than the original early access version," COGconnected said in its review. "The quest system has been revamped, the map has been expanded, and civilization is scattered everywhere. But the gameplay loop is still pretty relentless."
'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reviews
If you're going to base gamers' reaction to "Palworld" on its Steam reviews, well, the game currently has more than 465,000 user reviews as of press time that Steam has categorized as "Overwhelmingly Positive."
"I don't usually like survival games, but 'Palworld' is fun, has a bunch of unexpected things you can do in it and really cool designed Pals," AdvengerTime says in a Steam review. "This game appeals to a lot of different player types, I'm more of the adventuring type and it scratches that itch for me."
"I genuinely had way more fun with this than I expected," Janna says in a separate Steam review. "Playing with friends is 100% the best part. Everyone ends up doing their own thing, someone disappears for an hour, someone else comes back with five new Pals, and somehow everything still works."
