"Palworld" officially released last weekend, and a wave of new and returning players are jumping in for the first time or coming back after a long break.
One of the first decisions the game asks players to make is where to put their stat points. Getting this wrong early can make the experience noticeably harder down the road.
Here is a breakdown of which stats are worth investing in first, which ones to skip, and what to do if you spent your points in the wrong places.
'Palworld 1.0' Beginner's Guide: Best Stats to Prioritize
- Carry Weight is the most important stat to invest in early, and it is not particularly close. Resources like Ore are extremely heavy, and players who start farming quickly will find themselves constantly encumbered without enough carry weight to work with.At minimum, doubling carry weight as fast as possible is the move, and it pays dividends throughout the entire run as the need for materials only grows over time.
- HP is the next priority after carry weight. Combat is unavoidable in "Palworld," and dying during fights against bosses or in dangerous zones sets progress back considerably.Periodic investments in HP as players reach higher levels are necessary to stay competitive in tougher encounters, especially when paired with whatever gear is available at that stage of the game.
- Stamina deserves some early attention as well, though not nearly as much as the two stats above. Running, climbing, and gliding all pull from the stamina pool, and having at least a modest investment makes movement noticeably less frustrating in the early hours.Pouring too many points into it right away is not worth it, but ignoring it entirely makes the early game feel sluggish.
Ignore and Avoid These Stats on 'Palworld'
- Attack is worth skipping, especially early on. The return on investment for Attack points is very poor compared to other options, and most of the damage dealt in combat comes from Pals rather than the player character directly. The stat may matter slightly more at very high levels, but by that point there are enough stat points available that a few spent on Attack will not make a significant difference either way.
- Work Speed is arguably the worst stat in the game to spend points on. Players spend the majority of their time away from base exploring, and the crafting and building that happens at base is rarely done manually for long stretches.Work Speed bonuses also come naturally from potions and gear, making it even less necessary to waste stat points on it directly.
- Defense cannot be upgraded with stat points at all in the current version of "Palworld 1.0." That stat scales only through gear and passive bonuses, so there is no decision to make there.
How to Reset Your Stat Points
Players who put points in the wrong places can undo the damage, but it takes time and resources. The item needed to respec is called Memory Wiping Medication, and it is not available until players reach Level 43.
Crafting it requires an Electric Medicine Workbench, 50 Aquatic Pal Fluids, 50 Bones, 50 Horns, and 99 Beautiful Flowers.
Once crafted and used, all stat points are fully refunded and can be redistributed however the player chooses. The cost is steep enough that it is worth thinking carefully about stat allocation before spending points, especially in the early levels where each point makes a meaningful difference.
With the "Palworld" 1.0 release adding a full story campaign and significant new content, getting a solid foundation set up from the start will make the rest of the experience considerably smoother.
