Pals launch fundraiser for family of former Dublin Fire Brigade member Adrian 'Aido' O'Grady

Pals of a former member of Dublin Fire Brigade have launched a fundraiser to support his family.

Adrian 'Aido' O'Grady, a 24-year veteran of the fire service, died suddenly in October.

The much loved station officer was a co-ordinator of the CISM team which provides crisis intervention, individual and group support and counselling to members of the brigade and the public.

After joining DFB in 1995, he went on to study a Masters in Bereavement Studies following a Bachelors degree in counselling and psychotherapy.

Friends and colleagues remembered him as a "father, husband, son, brother, friend, colleague, mentor, leader, psychotherapist, visionary, hugger, messer and all round good guy".

His extended family have launched the fundraiser to help his wife and children.

Writing on the GoFundMe page that they set up, they said: "Ireland’s Emergency services were fortunate to experience his brilliance and we all benefited from his kindness, knowledge and expertise.

"Adrian was internationally recognised as a leader in the fields of CISM, EMDR and Complicated grief therapy.

"Adrian selflessly took care of everyone who needed help, but the pressure meant that he often didn’t get time to look after himself.

"Adrian’s premature death prevented him from fulfilling plans for his family’s future."

The campaign has already raised over €7,000 of its €35,000 goal with friends and colleagues digging deep to help a "top bloke" who "literally saved" the lives of people he helped through his work.

Donations to the fund can be made here and a fundraising event is planned for 2020.
