Palestinian Security Services Warn of Possible 'Popular Uprising'

Palestinian security services have warned of a further deterioration of the security situation in the West Bank, leading to a possible violent uprising.

This warning comes in light of the current political stalemate and continued economic pressure.

A Palestinian security report said the possibility of launching armed attacks in the occupied West Bank is too high. The report, prepared before the latest wave of operations, focuses on the possibility of a security deterioration following a wave of violent operations, leading to a popular uprising, had the current situation continued.

The political stalemate has not only become a concern for the political leadership in Ramallah but also for the leaders of the Palestinian security services, according to Yediot Aharonot newspaper.

According to the report, the younger generation of Palestinians who range between the ages of 16-25 are a major concern in the West Bank. They were interviewed in large numbers for the study.

Angry about future prospects, this age group is the most unstable living under the PA and its use of violence is likely to escalate.

The report’s content is based on testimonies from youth in the streets, what youth write on social media as well as statements during interrogations with Palestinian detainees.

It was written specifically for the leaders of the PA security forces and issued just before the murder of Israeli yeshiva student Dvir Sorek in the West Bank earlier this month, which was followed by two other operations there.

It said that shooting attacks “are expected to increase” along with a rise in copycat attacks, producing waves of terrorist incidents.
