Palestinian Official: President’s Delegation Ready to Revisit Gaza

Member of Fatah's Central Committee Rawhi Fattouh has stated that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is willing to resend a delegation to the Gaza Strip to resolve inter-Palestinian division.

Fattouh demanded that Hamas ceases making accusations and holding others responsible for the ongoing division.

His statements were made in response to Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh saying the Palestinian Authority and Fatah are responsible for this situation.

National unity and cohesion with the Palestinian Liberation Organization – the sole legitimate representative for Palestinians – is the only means to resolve problems, he added.

Fattouh continued that contacts were made with Hamas to arrange for the inter-Palestinian meetings, but shockingly the movement offered “take it or leave it” options, with first an extensive meeting of organizations and public figures, second talks between Hamas, Fatah, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, and third a Fatah-Hamas meeting.

Fatah saw that these meetings, which he described as “formality,” reflect lack of seriousness, saying they won’t lead to a fruitful national work.

The extensive meeting only aims to deceive the public opinion, yet the bilateral talks are welcomed.
