Palestinian Killed While Being Chased by Israeli Police

A young Palestinian man died Tuesday morning in the Arab town of Arrabat al-Bottuf after the Israeli police chased him, Palestinian sources have reported.

Mohammad Majd Kamil, 22, from the town of Qabatia, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, was pronounced dead after falling from a considerable height while Israeli police officers were chasing him.

The young man worked in Israel, as a laborer, and apparently did not carry a work or entry permit.

Hundreds of Palestinians work in Israel without a permit and often police chase them and detain them to send them back to the occupied West Bank.

Under Israel’s permit regime, Palestinian residents of the West Bank are not allowed to access occupied East Jerusalem or Israel without an Israeli-issued permit, and many risk being shot and injured while trying to cross into Israel to work.

Tens of thousands of Palestinian workers are forced to seek a living by working in Israel due to crippling unemployment in the West Bank, as the growth of an independent Palestinian economy has been stifled under the ongoing Israeli military occupation, according to rights groups.
