Israeli army spokesperson said Monday that an armed Palestinian man dressed up as an Israeli soldier was arrested near the Binyamin settlement in Ramallah.
“He was arrested while walking in the direction of the settlement of Ma’ale Levona,” the Israeli Army said, adding that the Palestinian man was planning to carry out a major military attack.
The Israeli army said that Jewish settlers from the Binyamin area had spotted the presence of a man dressed as an Israeli soldier and walking in a strange way. They called the emergency hotline and indicated his location.
He was armed with a shotgun and pepper spray and was also carrying other implements such as a switchblade, a cleaver and a screwdriver.
Later, the Israeli army revealed that the man is from the West Bank city of Jenin.
Military sources did not rule out that he came to the Binyamin settlement to avenge the killing of four Palestinians who were killed during clashes with Israeli troops in the city of Jenin earlier on Monday.
