Palestinian Authority Drafting UN Resolution against Annexation

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki holds a news conference at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, May 22, 2018. (Reuters)

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said Palestine is holding intense talks with international and Arab powers to come out with a draft resolution against the Israeli annexation plan and that will be presented at the UN General Assembly.

He added that the Palestinian leadership “is discussing with world countries, especially influential ones, placing a practical mechanism to impose sanctions on Israel should it go ahead with its annexation plan.”

A draft resolution "is under discussion and seeks to determine the measures and sanctions that should be collectively and individually imposed by the world on Israel should it implement its plan.”

The ongoing talks are based on outcomes of meetings held by Arab states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Maliki said.

He stressed that Palestine is exerting pressure on the General Assembly to hold a session dedicated to discussing the annexation, saying holding the meeting is being hampered by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Palestinian Authority is looking forward to the establishment of an international coalition that would halt the annexation, added the minister.
