Palestine flag flown above Ayr primary school after "concerning security breach"

A Palestinian flag was flown above one of Ayr's biggest schools today after a major security breach.

The flag pole which towers high above above the Grammar Primary was accessed during an overnight stunt.

Council officials removed the flag late this afternoon.

It follows a pro-Palestine protest outside Hampden Park before last night's football international between Scotland and Israel.

Videos showed demonstrators outside the national stadium chanting 'Palestine' before kick off.

The protest was staged to support a call from Palestinian football players to boycott the match between the two nations.

Red paint was also splashed over a road leading into the ground with the words 'Palestinian blood' daubed on an overlooking wall.

Speaking after the school incident, Ayr West councillor Martin Dowey, said: "I have been contacted by a number of concerned residents throughout the day who have been asking how this was able to happen.

"It is a hugely concerning security breach at one of our primary schools and will clearly need investigating as a matter of urgency."

South Ayrshire Council said: "The Palestinian flag was not put up by South Ayrshire Council or Ayr Grammar Primary School."
