Palestine Action set for final legal battle with Home Office after Supreme Court ruling

  • Palestine Action has been granted permission by the Supreme Court to appeal its proscription under terrorism laws, setting the stage for a final legal challenge against the Home Office this autumn.
  • The Court of Appeal previously upheld the ban last month, with Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr stating that the proscription was a "justified and proportionate interference with individual rights" and that the group "overtly promotes unlawful violence amounting to terrorism".
  • The ban, which came into effect on 5 July last year, criminalises membership of or support for Palestine Action, carrying a potential sentence of up to 14 years in prison.
  • Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, was granted permission to appeal the ruling by three justices at the Supreme Court.
  • The direct action group was proscribed by then-home secretary Yvette Cooper in July 2025 following incidents where members broke into RAF Brize Norton and vandalised jets in protest against the conflict in Gaza.
