Royal Mile: Edinburgh police rush to jewellers as four figure sum stolen overnight

Police in Edinburgh were called to a jewellers on the Royal Mile after an incident this morning.

Officers rushed to the Palenque shop on the High Street just after 8am, after the front display window was smashed in.

This morning, a cordon was placed around the shop as teams carried out their investigations, with two officers and a van pictured monitoring the entrance.

It has now been confirmed that a housebreaking took place, with a four figure sum of jewellery stolen.

Officers are still at the scene and the shop remains closed to customers for the time being.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told Edinburgh Live:

"Police called around 8am this morning, Sunday, 15 November, 2020, to a report that the window of a jewellery shop on High Street, Edinburgh, had been damaged.

"Subsequent enquiries established that this was now a housebreaking and that jewellery, worth a four figure sum - had been stolen. Enquiries are continuing. "
