Palacerigg Country Park: Fire crews tackle 300 metre long blaze in Cumbernauld

Firefighters raced to Cumbernauld last night after local residents reported a huge blaze in Palacerigg Country Park.

Emergency services were called to the area at around 10.15pm and fought a fire 'approximately 300 metres long' which had taken hold of a grassy area within the park.

Pictures sent to Glasgow Live show the extent of the blaze, which was eventually extinguished by firefighters.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed this morning: “We were alerted at 10.15pm on Tuesday, June 1 to reports of grass on fire at Palacerigg Country Park, Cumbernauld.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire of approximately 300 metres long.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe and there were no reported casualties.”
