Palace of Versailles to host huge rave this summer and it's easy to go for cheap

The Palace of Versailles is all about opulence, history and royalty - but now it's about to add 'rave hotspot' to its repertoire.

The iconic French Château has revealed it will be hosting an electronic music festival, Versailles Électro, this summer, right at the foot of its iconic Hall of Mirrors.

We can't help but feel Marie Antoinette would approve of the big bash which will include live music, heaps of dancing and VIP experiences (although we imagine her choice of music may have been a little different).

For one night only, on Saturday 8th June, the Hall of Mirrors will be hosting French DJs from Ed Bangers Records, the former manager of Daft Punk, with a line-up including the likes of Breakbot x Irfane, Busy P, Myd and So Me.

The picture-perfect landscaped gardens next to the hall will be transformed into a giant dancefloor where guests can party like royalty.

The best part is that you're not going to need a royal budget if you want to check it out.

The cheaper early bird tickets start from €22 (approximately £18) online, while standard tickets will be €30 (approx £25) online.

However, if you do fancy channelling your inner French royal, there are VIP packages on offer from €160 which include access to a private lounge, an unlimited buffet and a few glasses of champagne.

You can find out more on the official Versailles Électro website .

How to visit Versailles on a budget

The good news is that you won't need to break the bank to head to Versailles for the big event.

For example, the palace is only about an hour's drive away from Paris, so it's worth finding cheap flights to the City of Lights.

You can find one-way fares from £23.16pp on easyJet , from €5.80pp on Ryanair , or £41 on British Airways .

As for your accommodation, TripAdvisor has a handy round-up of cheap hotels near the Palace of Versailles itself, with prices from £66 a night.

Meanwhile, Lastminute.com has packages including hotels from £73 per night right by the venue too.

Or of course, as it's so easy to get to from the French capital, you could look for a cheap hotel in Paris and make a wider city break out of it.
