Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appealed on Tuesday last week’s corruption conviction and prison sentence.
Sharif's lawyer Khawaja Haris said he is seeking the suspension of the December 24 ruling that sentenced the country's three-time premier to seven years for failing to disclose his sources of income.
Sharif, who was removed from power in 2017 over corruption allegations, is currently held at a prison in his home city of Lahore as authorities proceed with several trials against him.
Sharif denied the charges which he said were politically motivated.
He accused the military and courts of working together to end his political career and destabilize his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.
Sharif had already been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges related to the purchase of upscale apartments in London, after the Supreme Court removed him from power. He was freed from custody in September pending an appeal.
