Pakistan plane crash: Harrowing footage shows mums desperately searching for children

Harrowing footage shows distressed mums desperately searching for their children after the Pakistan plane crash today.

The Pakistan International Airlines plane collided in a residential area near Karachi Airport today.

The pilot reported an engine failure as the Airbus A320 carrying 107 people reached its final approach from Lahore.

Although there were reportedly few survivors, new footage on social media shows panicked relations rush to find their loves ones near the site of the crash.

It shows men lift tape up to allow distressed families through. Some of the men are holding young children.

It is unclear if these people were victims of the crash.

But the body of a five-year-old child was recovered from the rubble in Model Colony, as more than 40 people, including a baby covered in dust and other young children, were rescued from the site, local media reported.

It was unclear whether any people on the ground or in buildings were injured or killed.

Footage shows an apocalyptic scene with fires burning in a narrow street that was filled with debris from the wrecked aircraft as well as buildings that were damaged and cars that were totalled, and a wall of choking black smoke.

Local residents and rescuers were seen carrying young children from the site as local mothers desperately tried to find their kids amid the chaos.

Flight PK8303 was on a domestic journey from the eastern city of Lahore to the southern city of Karachi when it declared an emergency and crashed.

State-run PIA and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said 99 passengers and eight crew members were on board the 15-year-old plane, which was inspected by government officials as recently as November last year.

The plane's black box, which contains cockpit audio recordings and technical flight data, has been recovered by investigators.
